We had never been to this part of Scotland before and simply chose Powdermills B&B as a place to explore the area. It was one of our best decisions ever. Set in an area of scenic beauty, it is a beauty in itself. Located 8 miles past Inverary near the village of Furness it is ideally located to explore Loch Fyne, Inverary and parts much further afield. As you approach the outskirts of Furness watch out for the 2 white cannon signs either side of the road pointing to the accommodation which will be to your right. It is set back from the main road through gates and along a short driveway. There are plenty of spaces for parking. A warm friendly welcome is guaranteed with nice snacks and a drink for the weary traveller. The property is modern in build, spacious and light throughout. Our room was likewise with ensuite and complimentary toiletries. Breakfast is served in the main living area off the kitchen. There was a huge array of food suitable for any diet and delicious. The proprietors are friendly and available for advice on the local area/eating places etc. They maintain a small forest and grounds (sorry forgot how many acres) which is the reason for the property exceeding our expectations. We took time to explore the grounds with most pathways being easy to walk and only c15 mins and were rewarded with a great view of Loch Fyne. If you have time I would definitely recommend you do the same. It is ideally located 8 miles (c13 mins) from Inveraray going north or 3 miles (c5mins) from Crarae Gardens to the south. We visited the gardens on our way in (3 hours) and they are well worth a view. We also visited Inveraray and the Castle, home to the Duke of Argyll. There are plenty of eating establishments in Inveraray, we ate at the George Hotel and Inveraray Inn and would recommend both. Also visit the Harbour Gallery, good prices/amazing art.
On the Banks of Loch Fyne, The Inveraray Inn, BW Signature Collection is just 5 minutes’ walk from both Inveraray Castle and Inveraray Jail, and offers a bar, restaurant, free Wi-Fi and free parking.
Set in Kilmartin, 100 metres from Kilmartin House Museum, Kilmartin Hotel offers accommodation with a garden, free private parking, a restaurant and a bar. This 3-star hotel offers free WiFi.

This is a lovely house in a lovely location if you want to stop and enjoy the beautiful loch views. It is a short drive to Inveraray and quite a long drive to the West Coast. Dining out is limited. There is a village store for basics.

Furnace is a lovely little village near Inverary.
Furnace is a lovely little village near Inverary. Ideal if you like peace and quiet. There is a little shop in the village for essentials. Lovely area in Loch Fyne. Inverary is a short drive. There's lots of eating places and local craft shops there and a coop for everyday food shopping.
There is also an outdoor activity centre that does pony trekking and quad biking etc
Definitely worth a visit.
