It was quiet and comfortable. We had our dog with us and there was plenty of space for him in the Steading room we stayed in (Clova).
The staff were all lovely especially Jenny who always made time to have a chat and she was brilliant with our dog. The food was also lovely (dinner 2 nights in the bar and full Scottish breakfast both mornings)

Beautiful location, stunning views! The wee pod was very cute and really well equipped with everything you might need. There was a built in speaker system and lovely fairy lights over the hot tub.

Very friendly and welcoming staff, gave a good tour and where to go.
Bed was comfortable, however requested this was a double, on arrival these were two single beds put together and made up separately.

This was the best Scottish breakfast we've had yet. It seems the further we get from Edinburgh, the better as far as breakfasts go. The location was perfect for visiting Balmoral. A quiet village with all you'd want. We ate at the pub and had a few drinks. The food was terrific.

Not enough space in negative review section, hence the negatives start here:
My wife and I had booked the room via Booking.com in order to attend the concert of the Scottish Fiddle Orchestra in Forfar on the evening of 1 June . We would normally not spend this high ammount of money (£115) on a relatively local one night stay in Scotland but we were attracted by the photos of the double rooms at the Royal Hotel that were shown on Booking.com website and by Booking.com website promising a "fabulous breakfast" to be provided by the Hotel.
On arrival at the Hotel, we initially were not able to check in for at least 10 minutes as the reception and bar area was filled by a large crowd of inebreated and very loud football fans. After receving the room keys we had to pave our way through this crowd to get to our room.

Natalie and Tony could not have been more hospitable. They were so welcoming, obliging and helpful. St Andrew's House is spotlessly clean - it is a credit to them both. Our cosy room was at the front of the house upstairs with beautiful windows for views. Natalie was even so kind as to help us out with a small load of laundry we had been travelling for a few weeks. A service which definitely isn't in her job description but something she did to make sure we had all we could want for our stay. The breakfasts were marvellous - the porridge delicious!! We highly recommend St Andrew's House Ballater and actually prefer the town of Ballater to Braemar in terms of restaurant options and a bit better selection of small shops.
Hope to see you again Natalie & Tony - a million thanks for being marvellous hosts!!

If you plan to walk the hills of Glen Clova, this is the obvious alternative to camping rough! Fortunately, it is a good alternative and the bar and terrace attracts both hotel guests and the wider hill walking community.

Good base for hill walking into Glen Clova and Glen Prosen.
Good base for hill walking into Glen Clova and Glen Prosen. As for facilities, I don't think there's much here really except the Hotel Glen Clova, but that has a good cafe/bar and restaurant.

The hotel is in beautiful location and very comfortable.
The hotel is in beautiful location and very comfortable. The area offers a lot of lovely walks and it’s an hour’s drive from Dundee and Glamis Castle to mention these two attractions.
There is a very good restaurant for such a relatively remote place.
