Absolutely fabulous. We loved our room and the sea view. Hosts were amazing and the attention to detail. I really feel the host can teach a lesson or two regarding standards and custoner care to a particular Penrith hotel we stayed at the next night which was also almost twice the price! Food was delicious and quality. We would make a trip to Stranraer again if we could stay here. Thankyou hosts

There are nice scenic spots to visit near / around Stranraer, such as Castle Kennedy gardens,
Port Logan, Logan House estate whose owner donated part of their gardens to become today’s Stranraer Logan Botanic Garden. You can also visit
Castle St John in the town centre, as well as the museum. You can even come to join us for African drumming fun every fortnightly Thursday ! I myself travel 3.5 hours every fortnight on Thursday to practise African drum with this group whose drumming standard is very very high ! Always great fun ! That’s why I am willing to travel 7 hours door to door for my drumming fun every two weeks !
And, although I bring my own home-cooked food here, I also eat at some nice bistros and cafes.

A small, interesting working town on the west bank of Loch Ryan, visited right at the beginning of the season. Henry's Bay House Restaurant is excellent for food and the Ryan Centre has a swimming pool as well as a theatre/cinema with a good programme. There is a great view of the loch and Stranraer is ideally situated for exploring all of Dumfries and Galloway. The people are very friendly, helpful and welcoming.

The people.
The people. Roy came out of his store and greeted us and then walked us to two great places to eat. At the Caslte Hotel we were treated like royality. It was before supper time so they made fixed up our table and served us in style. The food and service was wonderful. David was our taxi driver for all our stay and was also a wonderful guide to the area.

Stranraer is a ferry port with good bus links to Dumfries.
Stranraer is a ferry port with good bus links to Dumfries. The tow, itself had a "sedate ' feel to it. Traffic was slow and polite. Lots of fish and chips shops. The central castle / tower house is the only place of interest and museum. Famous centre for curling with rink open in winter months.

Absolutely highly recommend this beautiful stylish hotel, very clean, great food with a warm welcome
Excellent location on the sea front and lots of parking spaces. Beautiful reception area and staff were very welcoming and helpful. Room was very spacious with a small table and two chairs, large comfy bed and good facilities. Evening meal was lovely, very tasty and well presented with good choices; as was breakfast the next morning, absolutely perfect. The dining room is beautiful and set out nicely. The bars were both superb to have a drink and relax. Absolutely highly recommend this charming hotel, simply one of the best we have stayed in! We will definitely return!
The owner was absolutely lovely and accommodated our early check-in as we had just driven two hours with two small children. There was a Park with a Cafe just across the street from the hotel, which was perfect when you have little ones that want to stretch their legs or go for a walk by the seaside. Very walkable to local restaurants or the grocery store. We would definitely stay here again or recommend it to anyone visiting the area. It was about a 15 minute drive to the ports as we were taking a ferry the next day so it was very convenient.
i have been to the thistle many times now and found it an ideal place to stay. there is a pub just over the road and it is very handy for the town. the room is well presented with shower/basin /and toilet. Parking is free and secure .Sandy the owner is very help full and after getting soaked on our motorcycles one year we took of our wet stuff and sandy dried it for us .good value/ comfy bed/handy pub/free parking/close to town/near ferry port/arrive any time/friendly staff. Cant go wrong.Mo Williams.
Perfect location for us as we were arriving in Scotland from the Belfast to Cairnryan ferry. We were greeted by the hostess at the door when we arrived, which was lovely. Parking was available on the street just outside the hotel, which was convenient. We ate at the Blue Peter hotel just up the hill. Great food but very quiet. Breakfast at the Corsewell arms was great, including haggis!
The room and ensuite were spotlessly clean. We had a coffee table and two comfortable chairs that overlooked the harbour. Both hosts were so welcoming with a tot of whisky on hand to welcome us. The breakfast was amazing, and varied providing us with a hearty meal. Location was fabulous for catching the ferry to Belfast. Near restaurants and pubs.
Very comfy bed, very big room and bathroom. Everything was clean . For me the location was perfect near the hospital, also it takes 5 -7 min to reach the town center. And the most important thing it was warm, I've stayed near the harbour once and it was very cold in the room .
We had a lovely view of the yard from this small, but comfortable upstairs room. It was nice being on a farm and the location was perfect for an early trip to the ferry. We had a quiet and peaceful nights sleep. Parking was free and near the entrance.
Spacious comfy stop.
Nice outdoor space with a little view of the loch/inlet.
Very extensive dvd collection for movie nights.
Not too far from Stranraer, your best chance at groceries and restaurants (8-10 minute drive)
Hotel is conveniently located and easy to find for first time visitor. Also town has great taxi service especially if you have to catch a ride to the ferry port. Laura the barmaid was really helpful.
Everything was 1st class caravan spotlessly clean and everything you could ask for a nice couple of days will use again in the near future thanks for a very enjoyable stay
We were catching a ferry from Cairnryan to Belfast & the hotel is ideally located just a few miles from the ferry port. The staff were very nice & we enjoyed our stay.
