Stayed a night before taking ferry to Orkney. Staff very helpful. Excellent meal and a packed lunch given instead of breakfast as we were leaving early. Parking onsite as well.
The Park Hotel - Where the atmosphere & surroundings are as welcoming as the food. Why not go all the way! To Caithness, the land beyond the Highlands and enjoy the hospitality at the Park Hotel.

The staff were all very attentive and friendly, and given they were very busy we were well looked after.

I just wanted a basic accomodation ahead of my onward journey to the Orkneys and that is exactly what I got.

The staff were very helpful and accommodating, the location is great, very central, the room is good sized and very clean. We didn't have breakfast so can't comment.
Compact wee town centre with a big Co-op supermarket.
Compact wee town centre with a big Co-op supermarket. People seem genuinely friendly & helpful. A train & bus station, nice beach & Scrabster nearby for ferries to Orkney. Good base for exploring round about & into Sutherland too for the beautiful golden sandy beaches an hour or so away at Armadale, Bettyhill, Torrisdale & Coldbackie. Lots of Stone Age relics to explore too.
A lovely but long journey up by train. Takes about 4 hours from Inverness. Only issues were leaving Thurso by public transport to catch links from Inverness to go further south as just 4 trains a day & nothing after 4.28pm weekdays. No buses seemed to leave Thurso for Inverness after 11.50. Buses take around 3 1/2 hours to Inverness. Good to book taxis as far in advance as possible as get booked up fairly quickly.

Hotel position and friendly staff were good, but the online description of the hotel and facilities was not accurate. Very disappointing.
- room not serviced for three days
- initial room smelly and mouldy
- had to ask for soap and toilet paper
- advertised food items for breakfast not provided
- bath leaked
- no phone in room

Some of the best place to eat in UK.
Some of the best place to eat in UK. Outdoors is its selling point, if King Charles III has a holiday retreat nearby it must be the best in the World. Winter nights are dark and cold with limited night life.

We used Thurso as a jumping off and landing point for the Orkney islands. I wish we had more time in the Thurso area as I believe there is much more to explore. And don't miss the Sri Lankan restaurant in town!! your dinner may take awhile but that's because it is being cooked up fresh.

Thurso is a town that has seen better days, but most people are going to Thurso to visit John O Groats or to catch a ferry, rather than for the town itself. We stayed out of season so did not visit the beach. We enjoyed our walk to Dunnet Head, and spent our 2nd day visiting John O Groats and Wick. We recommend the Thurso Visitor centre / Museum (free entry, but donatiion requested)
This is our second visit to Braeside, and it was just as outstanding as the first a year ago. The quality of the pods have maintained a high standard, and the extra size to them makes a big difference in comparison to other pods we have stayed in. The kitchen area is big enough to prepare a meal, and the shower was the best we had across the multiple properties we stayed in during our Scotland holiday. There is also the added bonus of the hot tub with a view! What more can you possibly want?!
After a trip of many hours by bus from London through Scotland, to discover the hotel and its fantastic owner was a treat by itself. She was so friendly, helpful and funny that it will definitely be the place we would recommend in Thurso to sleep in.
Friends of environment and sustainable development be welcome, as there is a whole guide in the rooms on how the place is trying to keep the world a better place, as well as advice on what to discover around you.
It is a fine house, beautifully kitted out for guests, run by nice people. The prices are very reasonable. It is situated in a fine part of the world; a Lightly rolling, lush, green landscape full of locally owned farms. It is a peaceful part of Scotland and provides a fine contrast to the rugged parts of the Highlands with grand views of the Orkney Islands and within a mile or so of the wild beaches of the north coast.
This is a beautiful house, well decorated and cozy.
- The friendliness and cheerfulness of our host was outstanding
- Big plus was a fridge in our room
- The room was clean, there was enough room to put our bags and sit
- The breakfast was very tasty
- Hotel with a bar and restaurant is literally next door
- High performing central heating
- Close to Thurso and about 15 mins to ferry terminal to Orkneys
The location was very convenient, and the staff were pleasant to work with. Check in was easy and there was plenty of parking, etc. We had a fantastic dinner, with out table in the atrium area of the restaurant overlooking the view down to the water, which was great. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good, with plenty of options, and they even packaged up one to go for us.
Pleasant driveway to the property. Overlooks the River Forss and water falls. Undoubtedly an interesting country house hotel with nearby old cottage premises tastefully decorated to a high standard. Loved the array of old clocks adorning the tartan carpeted stairs and hallway. Ample parking with a good breakfast. Short drive away from Thurso.
Staff were welcoming and helpful
Good choice of dishes for both evening meal and breakfast which were well presented and delicious.
Room was bright and comfortable.
Good value for money (we had stayed at another hotel in the town the week before. It was of similar rating and price and the Park Hotel was by far the better of the two).
Great location on the NC500 route. Staff were very welcoming. The hotel overlooks the bay at Thurso and the ferry terminal is just down the road. The room was very spacious, with all the facilities, including a settee. The room was clean, warm and tidy. Also, I could park directly outside my room. Breakfast was superb.
Despite being a hotel, the twin room we had appeared to be freshly painted and the bathroom clean although shower door not quite working properly. The kitchen and lounge area was clean and large. Internet worked well in that room. The property was cheap and in Thurso, handy to our ferry connection.
The location was fantastic, overlooking the sea and close to the beach. The rooms were basic but clean and good value for money. The food in the restaurant was a bit expensive for what you got but the beer was cheap and the staff were friendly. Would recommend it to anyone staying in the area.
Nothing about this hotel. Thurso is quite run down which I didn't realise. The rates for this hotel seem to be on the back of the NC500 popularity but are far too high for this hotel. Only outstanding thing about this overnight stay was finding YNot. Outstanding restaurant.
Very much like home away from home. Host was very proactive and supportive. Very central to town. Host provided a book of things and services in the area and had tourist info on hand. She also has a great library of books, many about the area and local wildlife.
We realized that Thurso is a great location for trips to the north and that's why we extended our stay twice here. It is a very spacious apartment with the main amenities you may need. Friendly and helpful owner, too. Really enjoyed our 3-days here. Thank you.
The room was spacious and had lovely big windows. The hotel was within easy walking distance of the station and the main shopping area and beach in Thurso. The food in the hotel restaurant was very good.
Carrig Lios more than met our expectations. Our hosts were warm and friendly and made a great breakfast and the room was perfect, with views over farmland. Great location between Thurso and John o'Groats.
The hotel is well placed in the centre of Thurso with plenty of on street parking. Breakfast was self service but very good and the staff were friendly and helpful. WiFi coverage was excellent
staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. There is a detailed guide to Thurso, Orkney, and the Northern Highlands in the room with nearby walks and hikes and restaurants to go to.
The age of the hotel, so old but well maintained. Such a pleasure to sit in the lobby and enjoy. Bar and restaurant on location and very good food. Glad we picked this one....
Everything. The greeting. The owners. The best breakfast in Scotland!!! The views. The hot shower. The walks outside. The beach. I could go on and on!!!
