Reception looks a bit of a dive but room was very comfortable and excellent value for money.
Manager was really helpful but other staff were all not bothered.
Food was good both in the evening and also for breakfast.

Even at the height of summer, be prepared with your layered wind and waterproofs. As long as you have the correct clothing, the fine views to the Cairngorms and village walks can be enjoyed fully. There is plenty of bird life to view. The gift shop and clock restaurant are well appointed and worth patronising.

Friendly village.
Friendly village. Lovely cafes and a wonderful gift shop Spendrift. I did some Christmas shopping there and it was only May!. Best bacon rolls ever at the cafe across the main road from the house. We ate out at the Richmond hotel which is dog friendly and we also had an excellent fish supper from a van which comes on a Tuesday late afternoon. There are lots of lovely walks around the village itself as well as others in the surrounding area which is beautiful . Ideal spot for a relaxing holiday.

Richmond Hotel also did excellent food.
Richmond Hotel also did excellent food.
Sadly The Clock Restaurant across the road is not currently open due to Covid restrictions. Having been to Tomintoul three times previously I can highly recommend the available accommodation and the location in general.
We were a group of 4 families and had the best time at the hostel.
The communal kitchen/living space was perfect for entertaining all ages.
There was also a brilliant garden space too.
Tomintoul is a great wee town and has everything you need for a Highland adventure.
Great pub, restaurant, a well stocked post office, gift shop, visitor centre and some lovely walks to explore the local area.
We were delighted to help some local travellers by drying their clothes in the drying room. was lovely to hear about their adventures too.
Facilities in Tomintoul are somewhat limited and the potential of the place has not nearly been exploited. It was therefore great to stay at Gordon House, where everything you need is supplied without needing to even leave the premises. Bed, breakfast, evening meal, beer, wine …. and even Whisky tasting.
The food was excellent throughout, the rooms clean and comfortable and the company from the characters Les and John was a treat.
House was very clean and tidy as was the garden. I chose this property with my dog in mind as she is used to having a safe garden to run in and this was exceptionally good and safe. The house was well equipped. It was a home from home. We liked Tomintoul itself. A friendly place and nice cafes and pubs which allow dogs in. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t too kind to us but no one can be blamed for that.
Historic inn in the highest village of Scotland. Lovely location, large room. Excellent dinner and breakfast! Martin (innkeeper) was friendly and the place was comfortable and cozy. Inn is on the square in Tomintoul but it is a quiet and peaceful village. Kept windows open the entire night and had no noise.
The house is very well located, very close to the central square of Tomintoul, with its hotels, brilliant restaurant (the Clockhouse), village store and tourist office. Our family of eight found the house very spacious and comfortable. We also enjoyed the nearby scenic walks on the Glenlivet Estate.
Location was convenient. The staff was friendly and accommodating. We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel and it was very good. Food was delicious and reasonably priced (breakfast was included). Leah was our server for both. She was attentive, hard working, pleasant and friendly.
Beautiful spot on the edge of Tomintoul, this wee one bedroom accommodation was an ideal place to enjoy the village and the beauty of the surrounding area. The view from the well equipped cottage is glorious and facilities made our stay very comfortable.
Emma was so kind and communicative from time of booking until the time we left. The cottage was spotless and beautifully decorated. We visit Tomintoul once a year and I hope we will be lucky enough to be able to reserve this cottage again next year!
Tomintoul (hope that is the correct spelling) is a very quiet and remote town good staging point if your exploring the highlands
Hotel was great value for money with lots of nice little details with very welcoming staff providing a great service
The value for money is brilliant, that's a fact. The staff was helpful and friendly. The pub/restaurant connected to the hotel is quaint, with a nice little terrace, a pool table and a well stocked bar. Great for relaxing after a long day.
I was in room7,would agree with other reviews that road noise was a problem.Food there was ok-nothing special but for £50 what do you expect…infact go across the road to the other pub/hotel and see what they are like!!!!
The Argyle Guest House is a well run establishment with everything needed for a brief or extended stay. The rooms are spacious and well put together and the hostess is wonderful.
Found this gem of a hotel last minute. Comfortable, charming inn. Had live music and a cooked breakfast, which exceeded my expectations.
I'd def return if in the area
