It was quirky, original and in a magical setting. The host made us feel very welcome, offered a tour around the castle and gave us some local history. She ensured we had all we needed including setting up the fire pit when we decided we would like to catch the atmosphere of the evening. Absolutely ideal for children or anyone who enjoys wizards & hobbits!

I had a wonderful stay with Neema, a lovely apartment. It was warm, comfortable and clean. Pretty location walk distance from the town center. Neema was a great host and made sure I had everything I needed as well as recommended some great places for dinner in town. I would highly recommend staying here.

Our twin bedded room was facing quite a busy road, although the beds were comfortable, the room was quirky with uneven floors due to its age.The bathroom and bedroom had a lot of spiders which wasn't particularly pleasant and also time consuming to get of.The exit from the pub car park was quite awkward as there was a blind spot to your right meaning you had to pull into the road to leave the property.Visited Lynton & Lynmouth,Tiverton and Westward Ho and Cobbaton Combat Collection all worth visiting. The Bell at Chittlehampton is also well worth a visit for food and local banter

Staff were lovely. Room was clean and tidy.
Staff were lovely. Room was clean and tidy. Not much for kids to do so would recommend a short stay if you have children. The breakfast was lovely but didn’t eat in the restaurant due to the price. The range of activities could be improved and it would be nice to have some evening entertainment.

Umberleigh Bridge is situated to make easy traveling to other towns, ie:- South Molton (great pannier market) and a brilliant old fashioned butchers, who makes fantastic sausages, pie's and his ham is to die for. Also Barnstable is in easy reach, which is a large town on the river with a large selection of shops and restaurants.
Beware this part of Devon seems to have lots of potholes in the roads.

It is a charming country 16th century country pub run by warm and friendly people in the middle of a lovely rural location. The room was characterful and comfortable with some nice touches in keeping with the character of the place. You felt you were staying somewhere out of the ordinary. Everything was to a high standard. Breakfast was great.

Friendly service and made to feel welcome.
Friendly service and made to feel welcome. Old building with many original features however there is an odd mix of high quality carpets, bathroom tiles and sanitary ware and bed linern contrasting with the exterior which is a little shabby and inside plasterboard ceiling panels that need replacing / reskimmingand other aspects of maintenance. However don’t let that put you off….the good points far outweigh the opportunities for improvement and we would happy stay there again. Good service, comfy beds and value for money pricing.

We booked one night at this “inn” in May this year.
We booked one night at this “inn” in May this year. When we arrived at 4:30pm the place was closed.
No one was there, just a note on the door with a telephone number.
Two other guests arrived at the same time.
The owners had cynically waited until after the cancelation time limit to email to say that the inn was in fact closed. We were traveling at the time and did not receive our notification.
I called the number. There was no apology…she just offered an entrance code.
Once in the shabby room there was no information at all. Had to call again for the wifi code.
We had booked into an inn for food, drink and hospitality. There was none.
The shower was great!
We were obliged to drive to another Inn nearby where we were fed and watered despite the fact that they normally only did food for residents on a Monday. That’s hospitality.
In the night I woke extremely cold. There was something resembling a duster on the end of the bed which turned out to be an incredibly thin blanket. This helped a little. In the morning I discovered why I had been shivering… the duvet had been washed and the filling had clumped into blobs ( see photos)
We managed to get a little sleep despite the constant traffic noise.
The dining room was dismal and we didn’t expect breakfast would be good so we left, leaving a £20 note to cover for the laundry and the shower. I’m an honest soul.
I would have left it at that. I don’t usually write bad reviews but on my return home I discovered they had taken a payment of £95 for our trouble!
Ok so we didn’t complain to the booking company at the time… we were tired having traveled a long way. We were disappointed having returned to the uk to celebrate a special anniversary and this put such a damper on things.
These people need to be exposed for the crooks that they are.
Don’t go near the place

Latiff, the hotel duty manager was extremely helpful and really tried hard to make our stay enjoyable following the catalogue of things that either went wrong, were mis sold or just plain awful. We can't thank him enough. He was superb.
The staff generally should be commended as they must face a daily mountain of problems as this hotel is really experiencing some teething problems following the refurbishment and is clearly not ready to be let out yet.
There was a good choice for breakfast. It was delicious, as were the evening meals. The location was rural though it was easy enough to travel to all the places we wanted to go - the north Devon coast and RHS Rosemoor. It was very peaceful and relaxing. The manager/owner was efficient, friendly and did his best to ensure everything was just right.
Wonderful friendly hotel with lovely accommodation and some really nice touches such as fresh flowers in the room. Dog friendly with treat included in room for dog. Food was excellent. Had two evening meals which were well presented and delicious. Breakfast was also very fresh and good., as was the service. Would thoroughly recommend
We booked last minute and expected to change rooms mid stay, we were upgraded to a suite which was very pleasing. Breakfast was good. The staff were very good. The bed was very comfortable. The spa was excellent. We've stayed in many similarly styled hotels and this one of the better ones.
The hotel is in a beautiful rural location with stunning views. Our room was comfortable and spacious, the gym is well equipped with 2 leisure pools. We only ate in the Cellar Restaurant, but the food was good and reasonably priced. Above all the staff were really friendly and helpful.
The hotel was absolutely lovely. We enjoyed that the property was a bit out of the way and private - it made for a restful and quaint stay. The building, grounds, room, facilities were all perfect - we would certainly stay here again.
Fabulous hotel in all ways but check out at ten and not checking in until late afternoon somewhat limiting. How do you enjoy the fabulous breakfast if you’re rushing to check out at 10 !
Absolutely amazing hotel better than expected staff and owners very attentive go out of there way to help you food and breakfast is a must/ very very clean rooms definitely will go again
Use of the spa facilities without having to book time slots, free croquet available on the lawn which was great fun, choice of restaurants and high standard of decor and cleanliness .
Absolutely beautiful hotel with amazing scenery and a great restaurant (dined in the Cellar restaurant). We were upgraded to a room in the main hotel and it was stunning.
The food was amazing, totally enjoyed it. The hotel is located in a quiet area with lovely views. The room was super comfortable and the staff were helpful and friendly.
Great location, friendly staff the room was very clean and the bed was extremely comfortable the best nights sleep we’ve had in a hotel ever. Breakfast was amazing.
