Everything was great, but especially the staff. Very kind and attentive. They gave us a room larger than we expected and a wine for welcome that was really good!

Montepulciano is a charming town, and was very welcoming to my family. We had a great time exploring the city, and visiting the wine shops, restaurants, and stores. Definitely climb the tower at the top of the city, the view is breathtaking.
But be prepared to walk uphill, a lot. This town, as I am sure is the case with many other hill towns in Tuscany, is not friendly to people with walking disabilities, and only permitted cars are allowed in the city walls. If you are driving in from the surrounding area for a day visit, plan to arrive earlier in the morning as parking is a challenge. Staying in the city was a treat, but I wouldn't do it for more than a few days as leaving the city and finding parking again on your return is a challenge at best.

History and historic wines combine in Montepulciano.
History and historic wines combine in Montepulciano. My husband and I are sommeliers, art and history lovers. This town delivers on all scores and the locals are incredibly inviting and friendly - even more than the typical Italian standard. This town constantly has cultural and musical events, some serious and others simply fun in nature. Wineries close by, and the wine bars, closer.

Montepulciano is beautiful and old and hilly and kind of mysterious. It's fun to walk around – although your legs get sore! All the old buildings and streets and alleys were super cool. It was also great being in the heart of wine country. We'd heard a lot about Italian hospitality but didn't get a whole lot of that – it was still fun to explore ourselves, thpough.

The setting was breathtaking.
The setting was breathtaking. The accommodation was picture book perfect and included free parking! The views from the bell tower, directly across the piazza, made the climb worth every step! Highly recommended but allow yourself a minimum of a two night stay!

We had the great fortune of stumbling into the start of their week-long Bravio delle Botti festivities in which the neighborhoods compete against one another to roll wine barrels up the steep streets of the historical center. We got to see fantastic performances by the drum and flagwaving groups, have fantastic dinners put on by each of the 8 neighborhoods (contrade), and enjoy some shows put on in the Piazza Grande. The town itself is steep and filled with cantinas. Gorgeous historical hill town surrounded by gorgeous rolling hills, vineyards, and olive groves. It's Tuscany at its finest. Fairly well touristed, so be cognizant of prices and a few tourist traps, but otherwise very pleasant.

Montepulciano is a small town and everything is within...
Montepulciano is a small town and everything is within walking distance, but it's very hilly (up and down). There are several good dining/drinking options (Trattoria di Cagnano on via Dell'Opio Nel Corsa was great for a late dinner!) and good for shops (tourist and retail/clothing/leather). Wine tasting is a must too (great wine options by the glass at the Montepulciano fortress and Enoliteca on via Di Gracciano Nel Corso)
The accomodation is ideally located at the foot of Montepulciano (5 minute ride). The accomodation and surrounding garden were huge (for the two of us) and all required facilities were accounted for. We were well received by the owners, who are very friendly and took the time to run us through all the items at the accommodation.
A plus for us, having travelled quite a bit through Italy and stayed at various locations, was how quiet the area is.
An ideal location to explore the surrounding area and get a good rest.
Very thoughtfully put together agritourismo hotel. Nice, new, furnishings including comfortable beds and nice linens. Aircon worked well. Breakfast was a buffet served by hostess, who was very charming. Dining terrace has amazing view of Montepulciano. We had a nice big terrace space with a view. Spotlessly clean. Location ~10 minute drive to Montepulciano, ~20 min to Pienza, and within ~1 hour of Montalcino and Siena.
Very friendly and helpful hosts. Delicious breakfast, the best we had in the last 2 weeks of travelling around Sardinia, Corsica and Tuscany spending 1 night in each accommodation. Spacious room with a balcony with a beautiful view on Montepulciano. Great location - close to Montepulciano and shop. Out of the main road, surrounded by olive trees. Cute cats at the property. Safe private parking.
A really good location to the city. Yet very quiet and a short walk away from all the historic old town sites. All the staff were exceptionally helpful and welcoming. Good linens and a very comfortable bed. Ample parking. Easy to find, which says a lot for this part of the world when you’re not from Italy. they served tremendously good coffee. The breakfast foods were varied and fresh.
Absolutely beautiful. Montepulciano is one of the most stunning places in Italy. The staff were great and suggested a wine bar for dinner and reserved it for us. The chef in the morning made a fantastic breakfast. The room was spacious and beautifully designed. The hotel is in the best location, overlooking the main plaza area where movies have been filmed. Exceeded our expectations.
Breakfast was excellent, the room was so comfortable (radiant heat on the floors - what a treat) and the view breathtaking.
If you are in this area, look no further - this is the place to stay.
One last word: Thank you Lucia for your hospitality. If we ever return to Italy, we will make sure to stay here in Montepulciano.
Grazie mille Lucia!
This is a one of a kind stay that I hope to return to often. I highly recommend you include this spot on your trip to Italy. The hosts were lovely and accommodating and the house sits in a beautiful field of olives, grapes, lemons, artichokes, and countless herbs. At night we saw deer and rabbits and beautiful sunsets. Best part of our trip.
Wonderful hotel and winery! The rooms are high quality and beautifully decorated. Near the room there is a relaxation area with sun loungers. The evening hot tubs are amazing with incredible views. The view of Montepulciano from this place is amazing! We had a wine tasting that was good. Dinner was simple but very tasty.
The location is fantastic - right in the central square. The entire apartment was extremely clean. We found it to be more spacious than we were expecting. We had a great time - and the apartment was our favorite place we stayed over the course of our entire time in Italy. I would definitely recommend.
Thanks for the receptionist who fulfilled all our requests and guided us through the practicalities. We got one of the best steaks in the restaurant and great wine from their wineyards, so points for that. The breakfast was also great, basically everything you need for a breakfast in Italy.
Everything was perfect, it was definitely the best accommodation during my Italian trip. The owners are such kind and hard-working people and they made me feel at home, plus they have two very sweet dogs! I highly recommend staying here for everyone who wants to feel what true Italy is.
A very nice view, accompanied with a warm bath watching the sunset hit Montepulciano can only be described as a luxury.
Very nice rooms, and a tasty breakfast, complements a very nice stay at the Salcheto Winehouse.
The hotel had a pool and spa (both at an extra cost) But nice to have available for a rainy day. The breakfast included hard boiled eggs and cheese which has been rare in other hotels we have travelling to in italy.
the entire experience:
the private wine tour was comprehensive and best one I have ever had in Italy (bear in mind that I have been to 5 different wine tours over the years)
staff were friendly and kind
Our best stay of our whole trip to Italy. Such a beautiful location and beautiful home. The rooms were clean, modern, and luxurious. Breakfast was delicious. I wish we would have had more days here.
The property was absolutely stunning! Best view in Montepulciano! The meal I had in Italy cooked by owner Igor (Michelin chef). Top notch customer service, amazing breakfast, beautiful rooms!
Fantastic in every way. We will be back. The place is beautiful, the service is amazing and the food is wonderful. You can’t go wrong staying here. One of the best places we stayed in Italy.
absolutely stunning property. I would go here again in a heartbeat. I spent two weeks in Italy and my one night here was my highlight. I will never forget it.
A lovely glimpse of old Italy within the walls of Montepulciano, parking on site and a lovely room with a small balcony with a view out over the city wall.
