A truly memorable stay! The owner/manager and his family run this as an efficient labour of love. Super comfortable, spotless and with a lot of character. Lovely staff/owners, great food with local beers and wines, amazing onsen rooms. Short walk to the base of the slopes in the best (in our opinion) part of shiga-kogen for skiing. Popular for good reason, don't leave it too long to book!

Staff have been attentive and helpful. The staff speak English, hence it also made communication easier for us.
There is washing machine and heater available which we are able to wash our clothing. We originally thought we have to bring the clothing to a laundry shop.

Nice and relaxed place. I really liked the Onsen and the superieur terrace room that was quiet, also thanks to the respectful Japanese guests.
Very kind staff especially the young lady from Sri Lanka, but all of them did their best to make my stay as pleasant as possible and I stayed for 7 nights!
Very good bed and bedding and an easy walk to the charming village of Shima Onsen with numerous restaurants and cafés.

High standard of room amenities available to select in the foyer - body lotion, face masks etc.
First time staying on a lower floor not in “comfort room 5F” and it was totally fine.
Great views from the picture window out over the snow.
Excellent to be able to do some laundry - washers free, driers very reasonably priced. BYO detergent.

The included breakfast was great, though it would be great if there was a little variety from day to day. Staff were fantastic (including gorgeous golden retriever who sought out pats from everyone). The suites were large which was great for a group who benefited from two separate sleeping areas. Comfy beds. Very convenient location next to the Yamanoeki as well as ski in / ski out access (it took a few days to work this out however, overall Shiga Kogen is confusing on first arrival). The hotel's onsen area is amazing, great after a day of skiing. As a side trip visit the Monkey Park! It's a long walk in but worth it.
