Excellent location. Not far from Fukuoka and we drive all the way from the airport within 2 hours. Best retreat so far and we will definitely go back in different seasons. Driving to places are simple and easy. Can go to mountain hike or the lake areas.

A very lovely town.
A very lovely town.
But too many tourists during the weekend.
Too many Korean tourists, which quite some of them are lack of manners, speaking too too loudly, taking pictures everywhere, dominating the roads while walking with groups...

Yufu is one of those places where the place itself is wonderful but the vibe from other tourists and angry, upset staff members in shops can really darken an otherwise bright experience. It reminded me a lot of Kyoto in that way. The place, the shops, the scenery are all great... but tourists tend to be pushy, demanding, selfish, etc. And this leads many of the staff of establishments to be cold, distant, or upset; and rightfully so. I would like to go back there and spend more time at one of the inns. The staff there are usually very kind and helpful, and the spaces are very comfortable. But the place itself I could take a pass on.

We stay in Yufuin for 2 days, but travel 1 day to Beppu and the other in Yufuin. Yufuin is an absolutely lovely place. Every thing is so cute! And a lot of street food along the way.
The best thing is Onsen Ryokan! Don't miss to enjoy traditional Japanese style accommodation.
The thing I don't like here is that shops mostly close around 5PM, staff (both in hotel and shop) don't really speak English. They will try to explain to you, but in Japanese TT Also, trash bins are hard to find along the street.
I really enjoy the accommodation here, and the city is just too cute. You can take photos in almost every corner. This city is a MUST!

Yufu is not a big town and that is the beauty of this place.
Yufu is not a big town and that is the beauty of this place. The main shopping street Yunotubo is cosy and easy to stroll. There are many good cafes along the way. We enjoyed very much cafe Pepper and Anahata. Watch out for unusual snow that blocked the highway from Hakata to Yufuin. Otherwise it is easy to get to.

The traditional Japanese dinner is incredible!
The traditional Japanese dinner is incredible! I like Japanese food and the food we had there is definitely the best ever. The traditional Japanese breakfast was great too.
Location is good too.
We plan to come back next year with more family members!
Even though the Hotel feels kinda dated when you first step into it, the hotel room is very big in size and feels really spacious. When checking in, the staff was really friendly as well and they proceeded to guide me through the check in process. I also have to pay for the onsen fee (it's considered an onsen town after all) which I didn't mind. The view from the hotel room is awesome as well.
When checking out, I was given a candy and a farewell postcard as well with the photo of the hotel! Overall a very pleasant stay at the hotel.
Cute hotel with FANTASTIC onsen, good breakfast, good WiFi, easy walk to station, and nice staff.
Both the outdoor and indoor Onsen are great at this hotel! The outdoor onsen was especially beautiful and definitely the highlight. Everything here was comfortable, clean, and nice.
The walk to the station is easy in good weather (about 15 min) and takes you along a beautiful river. It’s also walking distance to a few other onsen if you want to go to a variety of facilities. I would definitely recommend this place.
- The hotel environment is comfortable. Each group of guests has their own house with very high privacy. As there are less than 10 rooms in this hotel, it's quiet at night, which makes the atmosphere tranquil
- The room is spacious and with two private onsens (one indoor and one outoor)
- The beds are big enough
- Dinner and breakfast is served in private rooms for each group of guests
- Hair curler/straightener is provided in the room
The hotel was built up in the hill, and the room we booked has a pretty view overlooking the city plus a private onsen. Dinner and breakfast were included with a very reasonable price comparatively with all other Yufuin properties. Dinner was unexpectedly great, not only the variety but also the tastes were absolutely delicious. They were willing to substitute other meat instead of fish for me and I really appreciate that!!
Nice location near Yufuin floral village and Kinrin lake. The room size is larger than average Japan hotel. There are shared Kitchen, dinning room with kitchen tools and laundry. You can check 3 Private onsens availability online and no reservation need. Open air onsen is a little bit expose when use in day time. Staff can speak English and Japanese. For lady you can borrow hair iron straightening from hotel front.
Breakfast and dinner were very elaborate and delicious- some of the best we had in Japan! The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was large and comfortable with thoughtful touches, like a video on how to use onsen. It was nice to be able to reserve private onsen for our family, especially since I have a tattoo and cannot use public ones. The onsen were beautiful, well maintained, and always available.
The house is big with living room, dining, bedroom, toilet and bathroom seperately according to Japanese ryokan. The onsen comes with the perfect view of Yufuin city and mountains. The dinner and breakast were delicious and a lot. The staff was helpful and friendly. This was our perfect stay.
The 3 private onsens! One indoor and one outdoor. Also the breakfast and kaiseki dinner was amazing. Although it is our most expensive hotel, it was really worth the money. And they will pick you up and drive you to the station, so you do not have to worry about the distance to the station.
A lovely ryokan to stay on the edge of Yufuin. It was quiet with easy parking and a safe neighbourhood. We enjoyed the onsen very much and would not hesitate to stay here again. The meals were beautifully prepared and the dining room was lovely. There were bikes available for hire.
Very close to Yufuin train and bus stations. Located above their cafe. Nice onsen with both hot and cold water onsen and a sauna, but need to alternate timing with men and women. Very new, clean and spacious. Toilet is separated near the entrance.
we took the facility with private onsen. it was very good. we had the option of using the private or public onsen. please is comfortable. The owners arranged for some Christmas cakes for us as we spent Christmas there! how thoughtful
having a personal onsen was wonderful. the Japanese style home made it feel like a home away from home. The location felt remote which was something we love and yet it was within walking distance from the main areas of Yufuin.
We booked a villa with private onsen and it doesn’t disappoint. The 2 level villa was beautifully decorated with a terrace that faces Mt Yufu in full splendour of sun set. the same view is possible from the private onsen.
Staff was exceptional and service was great. Hotel paid for our taxi ride from the rail station. Breakfast and dinner was GREAT!
Private onsen was terrific. We used it as much as possible during our short stay.
Excellent ryokan with private onsen available in annex rooms. Good views of Yufuin from the main building and public onsen. Service was very good and the breakfast and dinner was very tasty.
From a relaxing onsen soak to the best sleep and then a tasty, family-style breakfast, we enjoyed our stay at Yufuin Sunday. We also appreciated the restaurant recommendations.
