The views of the Tongariro mountains around National Park are excellent. It is a quiet little village with a good bar. There is no shop so buy your food before you head to National Park. National Park is an excellent base if you are planning to do the Tongariro Alpine Crossing walk as you can get a shuttle to and from the walk from here.

Excellent place for hiking and trekking.
Excellent place for hiking and trekking. Place is near by famous mountain area. If require, all the hiking gears can rent from near by shop. As an alternative to Alpine crossing, I recommend Taranaki falls, Lower Tama and Upper Tama lakes trekking.

It’s a great place to visit if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of life. Venture into the outdoors there are so many good walking tracks and of course in the winter when the snow comes skiing as well!

It's a great base for exploring Tongariro National Park's hiking trails. Most trails are within a 10-minute drive. Keep in mind that the village only has two restaurants. Personally, I recommend the pub next to the mini golf for a good meal.

Great views of the mountains.
Great views of the mountains. Not many eating options but it is a tiny town/village. Schnapps bar is cozy and decent pub food. Spiral restaurant buffet breakfast was a bit average, a la carte menu looked better but wasn’t available on Sunday

Always enjoy the atmosphere in this beautiful rugged environment.
The Walks are very nice with beautiful scenery in every direction. Ohakune is also an interesting town with much to enjoy with cafe's, quaint eateries & many options for accommodation.
This apartment is perfectly located in the National Park village, which was perfect for us having just finished the Tongariro Crossing. The rooms were well equipped, and the sizeable, powerful shower was just what we needed after a hard day's hiking. We also met the owner, who was lovely and had no issues with the fact that our booking had changed from 1 to 2 people, other than being concerned that he hadn't known to be able to leave us enough towels. A wonderful stay and excellent value for money.
We love that the accommodation is centrally located in National Park village (not that the village is big). Graeme & Lynley also sent us clear instructions how to get into the house all by ourselves, which was really convenient as we travelled after work and reached there quite late in the evening. Everything in the accommodation really makes us feel like "home". There were even kitchen staples that we could use to cook our meals! Love it!
Awesome place to stay at. felt very clean and and awesome location in the national park. The owners were super accommodating to us when we had realised late at night we forgotten our option of breakfast. Also was able to arrange the shuttle to pick us up from the accomodation to the Tongariro crossing making our trip completely stress free. I couldn’t recommend this place more and will happily stay again and recommend to our friends.
Very close to the Ketetahi Carpark for the Tongariro Crossing. Mobile phone service with Spark only - none for Vodafone or 2 Degrees. Good to know for anyone considering future bookings :-) Also make sure to bring your cooking pots and utensils, and own bowls, cups, plates and cutlery as in the description - the kitchen ovens, fridges and microwaves are there to use but you must bring your own cooking and eating gear.
There is a large kitchen, where guests can prepare their own meals. A pub and hotel restaurant are close by, but can be very crowded. Short driving distance to National Park. We had a room with private bathroom, which was nice. The normal rooms with shared facilities are quite small. There is also a large television room with comfortable seating.
Perfect location before completing the Tongariro Circuit. Friendly welcome from owners.
Despite a reduced dinner menu, the bolognaise and lamb shanks meals were delicious.
It was New Year's Eve, but we had a quiet night, no noisy parties in the hotel. We felt sorry for the owners having to manage with staffing issues at a busy time.
Good lodge feel - shared amenities are great, a really enjoyable "village" feel to the place. Great location for access to ski fields (Whakapapa and Turoa) plus Mt Ngauruhoe. Tongariro and Ruapehu for climbing and tramping. Close to everything in National Park
We booked here last minute as we had changed our plans for the Tongariro Alpine Crossing Hike. Due to double booking we were upgraded as it was our honeymoon. The rooms were basic but just what we needed for a night stay before the hike. Very compact.
Very clean, well organized, kitchen fully equipped! Got the room for myself, what a luxe! The owners are also really loveable and the place is well located especially if you want to do the national park.
Very quiet and perfect for a good rest.
Stayed in the "ski lodge"part of the place. Hostel-like atmosphere. Spacious common area, but a little cold and steril.
The whole village seems to need to recover from the pandemic/lockdown.
Clean and spacious rooms. We also liked the way they help you organize the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, from renting out hiking boots to providing shuttle service to and from there.
I stayed at this place in April 2022. The place is very close to tongariro National Park (around 20kms) and secluded.
The amenities were as expected. Value for money.
