Timaru was larger than I realised but staying in Caroline...
Timaru was larger than I realised but staying in Caroline Bay area was fabulous as close to the hub of activity / cafe. Played golf at Timaru and whilst the course is 18 holes, it was very flat but 2 or 3 of the holes, around the lake, were interesting. Had dinner at Pier 64 which was absolutely excellent

It was easy to get around Timaru.
It was easy to get around Timaru. All roads are well sign posted and the roads are in great condition. We used Timaru as base to visit other tourist attractions nearby and our stay at Glenie Cottage BnB was a perfect location to relax after our touring around. The town is clean and tidy, as much of New Zealand is. We loved the unique Steampunk Museum. The adventure playground at Carolyn Bay would be a child's dream come true. Timaru, you have designed a top notch adventure playground to cater for all children. A must visit for families with children. Well done! As an older couple we were impressed with the amazing boardwalk that allowed us to walk around with ease and read the information boards on display. This is a credit to the town.

Our accomodation was amazing the owner paid so much attention to detail. A bag of rocky road chocolate just to mention one. The apartment was more than we expected and reasonably priced. We ate a tv the Japanese restaurant just a block away it was superb. I’d never been to Timaru before and would certainly recommend.

Lovely old city with some classic old buildings and stores.
Lovely old city with some classic old buildings and stores. Nice cafes and restaurants. Easy to get around with call up public transport and cheap. Lovely Caroline Bay and penguins. Nice in the evening to see them come ashore. Good choice of dining places from Asian to Customary. Nice Indian restaurant. I ate most of my meals at the hotel which had a good selection and well presented. A games room at the hotel for those that like that sort of thing. Nice friendly staff.

Best playground for kids, even teens would enjoy it.
Best playground for kids, even teens would enjoy it. Great flying fox and a hamster wheel for silly adults.
Shops are interesting.. not plastic malls. Coffee houses everywhere.
Aorangi Park is an excellent event stadium too.

Timaru was a lovely little town , we spent most of our time...
Timaru was a lovely little town , we spent most of our time at the Caroline Bay Carnival & visited other Towns in the region on day trips . We did find the lack of Restaurants & bars that were open over the New Year period a problem which made it difficult to find places to eat & drink & obviously our accommodation was not what we had expected of a Hotel stay . Other than that Timaru was a good trip as my partner had never been there before & we would definitely visit again but stay somewhere else
Mel and Greg were very welcoming hosts and provide a delicious healthy breakfast from local sources. They have a lovely garden full of beautifully blooming roses surrounding their unusual property complete with tower. The courtyard makes a wonderful wedding venue complete with chapel and birdsong. For fly fishing enthusiasts such as my husband an excellent local fishing guide Paul can be booked through them. An excellent restaurant recommendation in nearby Timaru completed our enjoyment of the stay.
The Terrace Apartment is a Harbour-Side sea cottage, it overlooks the Port of Timaru. The apartment has extensive views to the South & North, but vision is restricted to the East because of a huge Silo.
You soon get used to the Silo, as the Harbour Views, watching ships come & go & the Tugs busily plying their trade of pushing & pulling ships into the wharfs takes over your line of sight.
The Town Centre of Timaru is 260metres walk & there are 2 pubs within that range.
I booked a room in the last minute as I didn't plan on coming to Timaru and I arrived one hour later at the hotel. The receptionist was very friendly and actually upgraded me to a bigger room. The room was quite big and everything was clean. I used the option to have breakfast, so I had to place my order by 8pm the evening before and in the morning I could eat it in the bar downstairs. The bar is actually quite nice and lively (not in the morning ;-)
This place was ok. Quite basic but also a little bit cheaper.
The hotel is only accessible by some sets of stairs above a restaurant so we had to lug our heavy baggage one by one up there. The sound travels easily between rooms and the room doesn’t actually have a kitchen with a sink, there’s a shared one on the floor apparently. That’s a little misleading in the advertising on booking.
Pleasant View was an unexpected surprise. The location was very picturesque with an awesome view over Caroline Bay and right next to a lovely walk. There is a large comfy lounge and breakfast/kitchen area for guests and our room had a great view. Breakfast was hearty with homemade bread, and our host was lovely. well worth the stay.
We were situated just outside of the city centre which was perfect. Nice clean room with all the necessities. Bonus TV in the bedroom as well. Nice big bathroom with an added bonus of a spa bath. I would recommend staying at Aspen on King if staying in Timaru.
Perfect B&B on the edge of Timaru but an easy Beach walk into town. The couple who run Pleasant View are wonderful and very caring and did all they could to make our short stay perfectly enjoyable and relaxing. Fab facilities and we will definitely be back!
Easy to find
Easy to park
Staff was very responsive and helpful
Location was great for exploring Timaru
Comfortable Bed
Very clean personal bedroom and bathroom and shower were clean, and comfortable to use in a shared situation.
Free parking available in front of the hotel, quiet room (except noise from the neighbours who don't know slamming the doors disturbs the others). Friendly host at the reception, proximity to timaru's blue penguins colony.
The bed and pillows were very comfortable. I could easily walk to Dashing rocks and Caroline Bay, though others may feel it is a bit long and want to take a car. Off street car parking was great.
This was my third stay at the Bay Viaduct. Lovely views over Caroline Bay. Comfortable rooms, everything one needs for a couple of nights stay. Restaurants nearby and town an easy walk.
