Twizel is a great base for all the wonderful activities the region has to offer--dark skies, Alps to Ocean, Āoraki, incredible lakes, hot springs, hiking. A lot of very good restaurants with something for all tastes. Two or more grocery stores, with great wine selections and customer service. Great outfitters for biking.

We have been here a few times now and love it. It is the gateway to Mt Cook - we have done a heli hike, some wonderful walks and tramps, taken in the rivers and lakes, soaked in the hot tubs, eaten at local restaurants, shopped in the local stores, star gazed .... the list goes on.
The locals are super friendly - Twizel is just down the road from Tekapo but is nowhere near as busy or commercial. Accessible from Christchurch or Queenstown - you can fly into one, rent a car and fly out from the other, or just do a round trip. We will be back !!

Restaurants and cafes very busy and some were closed. Since it was Easter Sunday and the finish of Warbirds Airshow, we had difficulty finding somewhere to have dinner and certainly no place for breakfast.

Twizel is a small town but growing, with new housing areas on the edge of town and spreading out from there. It is mainly a holiday town but has a core of permanent residents.
It has a nice wee shopping area, good restaurants and is handy to the other lakes in the area and to a ski field in winter. It also gives easy access to Aoraki Mt Cook and the Waitaki Valley.

Cute town.
Cute town. It has what one needs to enjoy the getaway—groceries, pharmacy, gas, some clothing stores. And, most importantly, nice people who—in spite of the numbers of tourists who are in and out of town—are kind and helpful. Thank you, Twizel!

Nice little place with easy access by car to several lakes and the Hooker Valley walk. Nice river walk with views to Mt Cook.
Twizel has few tourists that we saw and has a very different feel to it than Tekapo, which we didn’t like at all.
We didn’t eat out in Twizel, but we did see a few restaurants, we cooked at the house as had great facilities there.
Good supermarkets.
We booked the place as we will be doing a trail at Mt Cook and the location was perfect. It was close the Mount Cook, the salmon shops and Twizel town. The room was clean, spacious, and comfortable. The place has a small kitchen to prepare meal, enough for one person to be in. There is also enough space to park our car. The area was quiet and peaceful too. I would recommend the place for a couple of small group of friends!
We had a brilliant stay at Rosedale cottages. The cottage itself was well-equipped, comfortable and in a great location with mountain views from the balcony and just a 45 minute drive to Mount Cook. Debbie and Dave were some of the best hosts we've come across, they were incredibly kind and made us feel right at home! If we're ever back in Twizel, we'll definitely be staying here again.
The staff were really nice and let us stay in the lounge past close, that was really nice to finish watching a movie.
The cabin was just what we needed. Comfy bed, warm duvet and we got a private parking spot. Facilities are great. Good warm shower and kitchen is well maintained.
Thanks Twizel Holiday Park
Thank you so much Jordan and Twizel Getaways for the marvelous, awesome and unique stay you offered us during our time in the surroundings of Aoraki/Mt. Cook. Everything was perfect! Pity we booked The Cabin Omahau Downs for such a short time. Next time in South NZ it will definitely be longer :-)
The room was very, very nice , great large bathroom . The location is great for all Twizel has to offer good parking . My advice don't judge it from the outside dose not look like a Motel but wait to see these lovly spacious rooms.
Room was large, comfortable, clean, and walking distance from town. Driving up to the Motel it looks like a old world motel and was a bit concerning, but the inside and the staff were great. Truly enjoyed my stay.
I have been on a road trip for the past 8 days with 7 different hotel accommodations. Thus far, the "Townhouse Feel in Irishman" has been the only one deserving a "Perfect 10." I highly recommend this accommodation.
We enjoyed our stay at this place: the charme of the hotel depends ob other times but we liked this very much. Friendly staff and a calm atmosphere - perfect when coming inside after an adventures day :-D
I always stay here when in Twizel. The location is very handy. The rooms are clean, though a bit dark. Plenty of car parking. Near to the town center. The bathroom is nice and clean. Overall a good stay.
After living in hotel rooms it was so nice to have a home to rest in with full facilities & privacy with magnificent views.
the home was very tastefully furnished & a delight to stay in.
Love the space. Sure it’s a little dated but I had a corner room that had a living area/kitchen separate from bedroom. Close to town and close enough to Mt Cook and Lake Tekapo.
A well appointed Motel, organised, and clean. Near to Twizel township facilities. Bonus having the three private food vendors just across the road for first evening meal.
As close as we could get to aoraki to do Hooker track. Twizel is well serviced but very expensive. The staff were good and contacted us when we left something behind.
the staff are really helpful in providing what is needed. we were upgraded in our accommodation without question. this made our stay at the Holiday park exceptional.
Always enjoy our stay with Lake Ruataniwha Holiday Park made all the nicer with the hoar frost. The replacement bigger heater was fantastic and much appreciated.
