Everything.. we were only planning on staying for 7 days. Less then an hour being here we changed our plans for the rest of our stay in Panama and stayed here for 11 day. We travel many times per year around the world and I admit this location, property, staff and amenities are 10 / 10 exceptional. The staff upgraded us to a complete house. It was aprox 400 sq/ft equipped fully with full kitchen, king size bed, air conditioning and patio overlooking the ocean. Largest houses in the area and very clean. Couldn't have asked for anything better.

The room was clean and there was a nice terrace to chill in the evening. Shared kitchen was well equipped and also clean. There is a bar underneath the accommodation if you want to have a beer after a trip. Noise from the bar wasn't any problem for our sleep.

Amazing view. Direct access to the beach. Very quiet and close to the centers for scuba-diving and diving.

Excellent location, great room, daily housekeeping, friendly and helpful staff
This small hotel is located in Santa Catalina and features air-conditioned rooms, free breakfast and an outdoor swimming pools with sea views. Hotel Sol y Mar also has free Wi-Fi in public areas.
Santa Catalina is an interesting place. If I were younger and a surfer, it might be awesome. At this stage it feels like it is still the frontier, the “wild west” of Panama. It is obviously super popular with the crunchy backpacker and surfer crowd, and judging by the development taking place (golf course down the road), it will soon be popular with the expats and gringos as well.

Good place to have a day trip to Coiba, we did an excellent snorkelling tour with Watching Dolphins.
Playa Estero is very pleasant for a lazy afternoon ( but better with a car!).
Some pleasant restaurants in the village : We liked lodge bar and restaurant, very good and friendly.
Very disappointed by Los Penguinos, beautiful view and nice for a drink, but very very very long service.
There is an ATM near the Pharmacia and supermarket.

I’ve been to Santa Catalina about 9x in the last 15 yrs.
I’ve been to Santa Catalina about 9x in the last 15 yrs. It’s clearly a place I enjoy. I’m there for the diving. If you go there to dive you should visit Isla Coiba … it’s world class. Of course you also have surfing, kayaking, fishing, walking on the beach or just relaxing at your hotel pool. Highly recommend getting out and enjoying one of the many restaurants. I also really like the people, who I find friendly and hard working. Hangout by the beach at sunset and you’ll find locals & tourist playing volleyball or just sitting over a cold beer enjoying the view.

Santa Catalina is quiet surf town.
Santa Catalina is quiet surf town. During the day, most of the restaurants were closed. There are two beaches, the nicer one is Estero beach, which is good place to surf, even for the beginners. You can do snorkling trips, diving, surf or kayaking to the Santa Catalina island, where the beach was great and water clear.

Santa Catalina is an extremely nice surfer town!
Santa Catalina is an extremely nice surfer town! It is definitely one of my favourite spots in Panama in general! It is more remote so if you are a solo traveler I would suggest staying in a social hostel.
The people are friendly and it is a really nice town as a beginning surfer or advanced.
And you should do the coiba tour!!! It is so beautifull, i have no regrets paying a little more for a tour like this.

One of the top places I've been to for scuba diving, I've been there a few times and I've seen whale sharks, bull sharks, white tip sharks, giant oceanic rays, cownose rays, eels, sea turtles, sea horses, frogfish, etc.
Loved eating in Hotel Iguanito, Ai Mamita (in Villa Coco Hotel), and for breakfast: Café Panachocolat and Sugar Mamas.
Not super easy to get around, you basically need a shuttle or car to go through the bumpy road. Once there, it's a bit hilly for the average walker/bike rider. If you stay in the intersection where all the dive centers are located, and you're there to scuba dive, then you're walking distance from everything you need.
House ist run by a friendly family. It is located right in town near a small beach (not the surfing beach) where you can enjoy the sunset. Try the restaurant at the right beach run by the italian guy!
We highly recomend booking a snorkling tour at the Rolo Hostel! They guide you to the best spots, go with you into the water and show you all the species. Much better and more personal than with one of the companys in town. It was the highlight of our trip in Panama!
We loved everything. The place is charming. This is a small hotel (perhaps 8 rooms) so it feels friendly and casual but everything is really nice and well appointed and clean - pool, hang out spaces, resauant. We ended up eating here two nights and the food delicious. Our room (featuring a private outside shower) was spacious and the beds comfy. The location was good for us. 10 min walk to the town, 15 min to the beach, and 5 min from restaurants.
The hotel is in an excellent location close to shops and restaurants. The bus stop is just outside. The cafe on the ground floor makes tasty food at reasonable prices, although a discount for hotel residents would be nice. Short walk to the town beach for sunset, and a longer 20-30 minute walk to a nicer beach for daytime activities. Rooms are generally clean, fresh and comfortable. Many staff are friendly and professional.
- the host is really welcoming and super friendly. He helped us a lot planning our stay in Santa Catalina. he also speaks good English!
- beautiful location with great views of ocean and jungle
- breakfast was great and we definitely recommend the property’s restaurant. nice food and good prices compared to other places in the town center
- calm and nice to relax
Santa Catalina is not very huge, so everything is next to the hostel - beach, supermarkets, even an ATM.
The cabins are very comfortable, with its own bathroom and sitting area infront of the cabin.
We could book a snorkeling trip to Coiba Island when we checked in. That was very comfortable and easy to handle (just cash). The Wifi quality is very good.
Lovely hotel with a nice outside area to enjoy and just chill.
Small pool but really nice. The beach just near the hotel has a lot of rocks, so not properly for swimming.\
Breakfast was simple( eggs, fruits and pancakes/ bread) but really tasty!
Would recommend this place if you want to spend a nice and calm weekend close to the nature.
Perfect place stay in Santa Catalina! Highly recommend Rancho Estero as the hosts Elli and Zigor are great and take good care and make amazing Smoothies. You can do excellent surf lessons with Zigor at the beach in front of the Rancho. The Cabins are clean and nice und you can see the sea from the windows.
We will come back soon!
This is a very calm and quiet place to have a holiday. The bamboo huts are quirky and very comfortable. And the place has the best sushi! This is a very nice place to spend for a few days in Santa Catalina - if you prefer peace and quiet. It’s a 15 minutes walking distance to town..
Good vibe, very social. Location is good - right across a fruteria and supermarket, 5 minutes to the close beach and about 20 minutes to the surfing beach. Fully equipped kitchen and lots of refrigeration space. The hostel offers shuttles and fairly cheap tours to Coiba
Centrally located, Excellent, kind staff. Owners Chis and Juan were super friendly and helpful. Juan is an artist in the kitchen, has to be the best food in Santa Catalina in on site restaurant. Comfortable place to hand out in hammock on porch with good internet.
Maira and her husband are from Milan Italy and have been running this boutique hotel and pizza place for ten years. They really go out of their way to give you a fantastic experience. It was my wife’s birthday and she made sure to get a delicious cheesecake for her.
very nicely located hotel, one of its kind in an area of small hostels. excellent service from the staff and quick to solve any minor inconveniences. food was DELICIOUS, highly recommend the seafood. overall very nice place with good amenities and comfort.
- beautiful room with kingsize bed, outdoor shower and patio
- nice pool are with canopy beds
- beautifully decorated restaurant area
- delicious fresh food at dinner and great atmosphere
- hotel organizes tours to Isla Coiba in advance
It was good but I walked about 20 mins to get there because I couldn’t catch a ride they are still working on the upgrades for this place but it was nice and next to the beach, good and affordable food
Pool and showers are nice
Kitchen is well equipped
Free pancake batter to make yourself in the morning
Nice chill vibe, cute cats around
Surfing instructor from the hostel was good
Right on the beach! Amazing location- probably the best in Santa Catalina! Clean, cute cabinas with hot showers. The staff was friendly and helpful. Nice outside bar.
Basic hotel not far from beach. You can use a kitchen an sit on the balcony for breakfast or a drink. Rooms are bigger than they write in their announcement.
