Loved the very remote location. Sadly no snow this year so far. I look forward to experiencing their Nordic ski area. Though that didn’t happen this time around, the bonus for me is the discovery of this place. I was born and raised in the valley and lived in central Oregon for over a decade and only just discovered! The cuisine was excellent! I’m a vegetarian, felt at home with menu offerings. Prices are competitive with urban, worth it. The atmosphere of the dining was attractive lodge style, intimate, cozy and welcoming with a wood fireplace stoked both morn/night. There’s a nice set up in front of the fire for a group of 6+ to sit , play games, socialize. Staff were beautiful inside and out. We got a downstairs hotel room 2 queens. Next time going for upstairs kitchenette or condo. Nice rustic room. Clean. Great for kids and families!

    Government camp is a village.

Government camp is a village. In the summer it gives access to the camps etc in the Mt hood National forest. The area around the hotel is totally uninteresting, requiring driving away from the hotel for a walk in the woods, etc. Few restaurants, one high priced grocery/ liquor store in govt Camp.

Government Camp was a cute little town, comfortable to walk around, plenty of places to eat out, grab a drink, (or an ice cream) along with a small grocery store in case you need a last minute item. It is also close to great hiking, (which is why I was there). An enjoyable place to stay for a short while.

    Location and hiking were great.

Location and hiking were great. Room was fine for the price. We stayed in the bunkhouse room in a bunkbed. $175 plus tax on a weeknight - which I would recommend a weeknight as the lodge isn't as crowded as on the weekend. More than 1 restaurant would be nice.. Not everyone wants to spend $48 for 1 - and not everyone wants fancy - like prime rib with bean paste . The cheeseburger we had at the bar was awesome- but is not a part of that menu which was very limited. Our bartender made that happen for us. I want to go back when the pool is fixed. It looks amazing!

Convenient to Timberline and Ski Bowl ski areas.

Convenient to Timberline and Ski Bowl ski areas. Restaurants and shops and ski rentals. Shuttle stops to take you to timberline ski area scattered along main road. Not far from Mt Hood Meadows too but don't think there is any transportation to it other than your own car and chains required much of the time so rental cars are not an option. Easy drive from Portland.

This lovely town is the closest to the top of Mt.

This lovely town is the closest to the top of Mt. Hood (Timberline Ski Resort). It is the next best option for staying after Timberline itself if you are into skiing, and the best option if you also enjoy charming small towns. Best food: Mt. Hood Brewery! Fun activity: snowshoeing. Rent at Valian Ski Shop!
