Set 4 km from Queen Elizabeth Park, Lamanai Hotel & Marina features free WiFi access in public areas, barbecue and guests can enjoy a meal at the restaurant or a drink at the bar. Good location near the road to Lamanai off of the Northern Highway. Rooms were basic but clean and comfortable. Hot shower. Staff was helpful and responsive. We enjoyed drinks an appetizers at the restaurant/bar overlooking the water. Parking off the highway in a gated area.

Orange Walk felt more like the West Indies than Central America. It's a very small, very laid back town on the banks of the New River but not a great deal going on.

The people in the streets were always friendly, helpful and greeted us at any time. Have breakfast (waffles!) at the food court! Orange Walk is absolute safe, no matter if day or night.

Belize is a developing country;
Belize is a developing country; Orange Walk is typical of inland, working towns: very friendly people - who aren't yet jaded by tourism - living in conditions first world people would find untenable. The Lamanai river tour is simply superb - but we were on a 6 seater boat with Gilberto as our guide. Other tours zoomed by us with 20 on board; not nearly as personalized. If you are short on time and want to see several Mayan sites, do not head to Orange Walk as there's nothing there but Lamanai. Go to San Ignacio. From there you can go to Tikal, Cahal Pech, Xunantunich, Caracol AND Lamanai, if so inclined.

Orange Walk !
Orange Walk !!! Absolutely amazing quiet town. Very friendly and accommodating. Stayed at Lamanai Landings Hotel and Marina by the Toll Bridge as you go into Orange Walk. Excellent for bird Watching from your Balcony and on the river tour to the Lamanai Mayan Site. The hotel is very quiet. Food was great. Staff was more than friendly. Great wifi and Bar tenders do a great job with the drinks. Friendliness of the staff and the people in the surrounding area made me feel at home. Will certainly visit Orange Walk on my up coming Trip. Lamanai Landings look out for me.
