the views, the cleanliness of the rooms, the amazing breakfast and the kindness of the host
I had the room with the balcony overlooking the coast and the sea, and it was like a dream come true. Keep the balcony door open during an afternoon nap and you will be flying with the chirping birds. The whole house is set in a very tasteful bohemian interior design, as you can already guess from the open entrance yard that is filled with potted plants. Most notable, however, is the landlord who lives here alone. If you let it happen, you don't just rent a room in his home, but you dive into his life. A Woodstock generation philosopher, I would call him. One night he offered us wine on the balcony and when he heard where my friend studied, he went off and returned with a narrative he had written decades ago about the city and recited it, skillfully staggering back and forth in the rhythm of the tale. The next night, he offered to cook a fantastic dinner and we emptied another two bottles of his local wine, talking about western cultural developments of the second half of the last century (if I recall correctly. My Italian is clumsy.) Had I known beforehand, I would have stayed longer than only a couple of days.
Everything. A piece of paradise.
