Shower, although modern and clean, was very very slow (almost a trickle) and low pressure. Check in was fine, but staff on the bar didn’t seem to know what was happening and weren’t the most helpful in terms of providing info (eg. check out procedures, breakfast times etc.) I had to ask multiple times to get enough information about a few admin-type topics, such as how to check out, what time breakfast was, what happened if an early check out was required etc. I was asked if I wanted breakfast providing as a pack-up, as I was checking out early. Fruit, yoghurt and cereal was offered by staff. In the end, my bag consisted of 2 small apples and a singular yoghurt pot. You have to walk through the dining room with luggage / belongings etc which feels awkward (not the property or owner’s fault - just an observation)

Room was lovely and modern, decorated nicely with great comfy beds. Nice sheets / linen / towel. Bathroom likewise, nicely decorated (appeared nearly new). Very clean throughout. Fridge in the room was a nice touch, as was the water and tea / coffees.

Although presented as a hotel, there no dining on offer, only a few bar snacks (pizzas, chicken goujons etc) so really a B&B.

No welcome,just given key to room, no information pack in room, no food served on first night then only pizza or chicken and chips. No menu for breakfast and the lad serving was not informative or helpful at all. Unable to do a poached egg on second day then husbands breakfast was served to someone else then taken from them and brought to him.

I’m not sure the rooms that I booked from the photos exist. I booked 2 modern looking rooms with large double beds. we had one modern ish room with a standard size double. curtains were mouldy and the kitchen extractor fan was a foot from the bedroom window. nice and loud first thing in the morning. the second room was in a block round the back of the hotel. in my opinion a much nicer room even though I was told that these are the old rooms. large double bed, outside seating lots of room to move but a very dated wet room. after spending the night in our double bed and noisy extractor fan I asked to move rooms. I mentioned that I had booked rooms with large double beds and was told that they don’t have rooms with large double beds. The wording on my booking says large double bed! I said that the second room my dad was in had a large double bed so could we move rooms to the block out the back. I was given a new room as requested and had a very comfortable second night. the breakfast doest look anything like the photos either. it seems that the photos are just for show as what we got was not what we expected. having said that our room change was accommodated without any fuss and the rooms were clean.

Sink was leaking and had a problem accessing breakfast one day, but lesson learnt!!! Keep trying all doors!! Problem resolved!!! Sink still leaking on day 3.

Sadly, in common with many businesses, the management are having trouble finding staff which meant that the bar was either not open or closing early. No longer has draught beer as they found they weren’t selling enough (come on people of Black Bourton, use your local!). I still don’t care for paying for my stay four days before I arrive!

Improved since last year’s visit. The grounds are looking cheerful with pansies in the planters, the grass was mown, buildings have been spruced up. The bed was very comfortable. The surroundings are beautiful, right next to a field and the church, birds singing everywhere.

Lack of sockets by lockers in bedroom but they are in the process of updating rooms so I am sure that will form part of the refurb, also evening meal was limited but I was assured that this was a work in progress
