Fabulous location for those (like us) travelling by train. I think 25m from the entrance to Waverley station? And unlike other cities, the station is in the nice historic part. Walk out the door of the hotel and head straight up to the stairs (there are lots in Edinburgh!) to the Royal Mile and castle above you. Really great.

The room was generally great, not that big but given that the location smack in the centre it was fine. Bigger than a budget hotel. The only gripe was that the bathroom had underfloor heating which was set far too hot and there was no way of turning it off. We normally love underfloor heating but it was too much, and we somewhat ridiculously needed the aircon on in the room to counteract it. We informed reception but there didn't seem to be anything they could do about it, no settings they could alter either. Fix that one thing, and all good.

Extremely well located for Ulster Hall and really close to the bus station as well as plenty of restaurants. Room is basic but it was fine for just a night.

The heating wasn't super easy to operate so the room was freezing and then absolutely roasting when I eventually figured it out. Room is very basic.

The room was fine. However, the walls are very thin and the people in the room next door made a lot of noise coming back after midnight for at least an hour waking me up and keeping me awake
