San Gil was a really enjoyable town despite not doing adventure tours. We loved the park for the birds and red squirrels. The town square was interesting to sit, with good restaurants and bars nearby.
we also took a bus to Barichara which was really lovely

San Gil is very turistic and influenced by that.
San Gil is very turistic and influenced by that. Excellent opportunities for recreation and extreme sports, but the horrid traffic can impact travel. The main route from Bogota' to Bucaramanga goes right through it and can really congest the streets. These are old "horse" cart roads in town and the traffic can be "impressive" and difficult to manage. Quaint charm with amenities, a commercial mall and plenty of food and drink around the central park.

San Gil as a town is not particularly interesting.
San Gil as a town is not particularly interesting. It's for the adventure activities that one comes. We went rafting on Río Suárez with Colombia Rafting Expediciones and I can only recommend them - professional, well-organised team that guides you through the Class 5 rapids while keeping safety always in mind.

We were only here for a day.
We were only here for a day. We went rafting on the river, and visited El Parque Natural Gallineral. Pretty park and pretty river. I'm sure there is more to do in San Gil, but that's all we had time for.

The area around San Gil is great for just about everything.
The area around San Gil is great for just about everything. We had a car so we were able to tour the roads in and around San Gil and it is beautiful, mountainous country. The Cuevas del Vacas is a must see but not for the faint of heart ( we are part of the over 60 crowd and thoroughly enjoyed it)
My partner and I stayed at here while we explored San Gil and it was fantastic - not only are the facilities clean and well-run but the staff are absolutely lovely. Our hostess Silvia taught us how to make arepas for the first time and we were always getting for recommendations on where to go next from the staff. There is a lot of effort put into making this hostel feel like a community space and to top it all off the beds are the most comfortable I’ve encountered in a hostel!
Very beautiful Hacienda: spacious, clean, all things one may need are available.. and all of this comes with an amazing view.
From the first minute I felt at home. This feeling only got stronger as Jane and Felipe were always at my service, like literally always.. day and night. Sorry for that guys ;-)
The surroundings and lovely dogs & cats around gave that extra "home feeling".
Wish I could have stayed longer as I only had 2 nights in San Gil!
Highly recommended :-)
My boyfriend and I had a wonderful stay at Meraki! The owner, Gustavo, and the administrator, Tatiana, both helped us immensely to organize our itineraries.
They booked daily activities, called taxis, recommended places and even spent several hours trying to find us a private car to take us to our next destination.
Tatiana in particular was incredibly kind and generous with her time. She definitely made Meraki our go-to hostel in San Gil.
Perfect location in the main square (Plaza Principal). Hostel has great amenities such as kitchen, fridges, pool, common chill out areas etc. The staff are super friendly and helpful. They have lots of information on the activities that you can do whilst in San Gil, and organise a free trip to play the national game of Tejo once a week which is great fun. Overall, a great place to base yourself whilst in San Gil!
I took an overnight bus to San Gil. Got to the hostel really tired. But Yeinny was extremely kind to let me rest and sleep way before check-in time since it was during the low season. Kitchen is stocked. Everything was frequently cleaned. Hot shower. Great location. A block away from the Terminalito that goes to Baricharra and Juan Curi, etc. Walking distance to the mercado/main plaza. Quiet at night.
It was a great hostel when I stayed there a few years ago, and it's only gotten better!! They still have wonderful staff! Very comfortable atmosphere, with plenty of places to relax quietly or meet other travelers. Very comfortable beds. Convenient location, near the main plaza and close to Terminalito, the little terminal that has buses to the nearby towns you'll want to visit.
Cute little hotel up on a hill and just out of town. The staff were wonderful, able to check in early and leave our bags late. The breakfast (eggs, bread rolls, arepa, jam, butter, juice and coffee) was amazing and the staff tried very hard to get everything right even with the language barrier. rooms were clean and bathrooms near pool and property cleaned regularly.
The staff were amazing! Diana welcomed us warmly and then Josh explained us patiently about all of the attractions we can choose.
Alex also was so friendly and kind!
Any way, every question we had they help you with a huge smile! Best hostel I have ever been.
I slept in a double room but I saw the dorms were amazing too.
Thank you!
One of the best hostels I've been to, the staff helps with everything - all info, booking tickets, you can book all the adventures like rafting, paragliding the day before and they organize everything. The bed was comfortable. The hostel is very social so great if you're traveling alone. And a hot jacuzzi in the evening is a plus :)
This is an amazing place that makes you feel at home and at the best vacation place ever. There is not a better place to stay in San Gil. An absolutely magic experience.
Besides the hostel itself, you will find there the best information and organization for your adventure activities.
The owner helps a lot organizing all the adventures in San Gil.
Free group activities like salsa clases and Tejo nights made this hostel one of the best we have been to in Colombia.
Excellent Breakfast! Fruits, eggs, bread, ... enough to have a good start in the day :)
Great Hostel! We booked all activities in San Gil here. We had multiple questions regarding our travel itinerary which all have been answered. We could even hang out in the common area after checkout and use all the facilities. Highly recommended!
+ Very good value for money
+ Great staff! Ivan was very nice, helping us with booking activities and the bus and giving us plenty of recommendations
+ Very nice common area with a terrace overlooking San Gil
It was right between San Gil and Barichara, made it very easy to go between both town without having to change accommodation.
Lovely restaurant just up the road and small shop for beers, some essentials, etc
the owner and the workers very friendly, they will
help you with everything and it’s important in such
an attractive place like San Gil, stuffed kitchen
and great location, very close to the center
The cabana was spectacular! The view of the valley and the town of San Gil is unmatched. Very cool waking up to the sound of the birds in the trees right off the patio was very cool.
Johana was super helpful with arranging the activities we planned to do in San Gil. The hotel was also well-located, close to many restaurants, a bus station and a shopping mall.
